Three Foods You Must Stop Eating Now
Three foods that follow the 80/20 rule for success. These three foods are responsible for 80% of your failure to make progress.
- If you can’t lose fat as fast as you want to.
- If you can’t run as fast or as far as you want to.
- If you can’t lift as much weight as you want to.
- If you can’t grow muscles like you want to.
Odds are, these three foods are what’s stopping you most of the time.

1 – White Sugar
All sugar can be bad for you, in general, but white sugar, highly refined, bleached with toxic chemicals, turning almost directly into fat the second you eat it. That’s one of the three foods you must stop eating now.
If you’re an endurance athlete, and honestly run or swim or cycle in Zone 2 or higher for at least 2 hours a day, there might, I say might, be an exception. But in general, you need to cut out the white sugar now.
A few years ago a guy at work who weighed about 300 pounds knew I had a personal trainer certification, so he asked what to do that would be easy. I told him to drop the white sugar, He lost about a pound a day for the first two months just with that one change. I’m not promising you those same results, and in general that much weight lost in a single day, day after day is probably bad for you. But I’m just illustrating the power of one single change.
2 – White Flour
White flour is also highly refined, and highly toxic to many organisms. When I was a kid little beetles would always find their way into the flour sacks and we’d sift them out. That was 50 years ago. Today the refined white flour will not sustain those little beetles. It’s bad for you too. Some scientists have speculated that white flour is the cause of several serious chronic digestion and allergic reactions.
One common response to this problem is the Paleo Diet movement which advocates no processed grain products at all. If you want to keep the grains, make sure they are as whole and natural as possible for best health. Keep in mind that the FDA regulations allow companies to add in some bran and brown coloring to white flour and call it “whole wheat” so be a careful consumer.
It’s simpler than you think once you get your priorities straight, to completely eliminate ground grain from your daily meals.
3 – White Salt
White isn’t the relevant description here. There are other colored salts, but that’s dependent on the mineral base of the crystals. A lot of salt is water from the Great Salt Lake channeled into dehydrating ponds and pretty much unprocessed, as far as mass produced food goes.
Salt is one of those things the body absolutely must have, and we’re biologically hard-wired to seek it out. That’s why we crave it. Back in the Paleo days it was more difficult to get, so our taste was left largely unsatisfied. Now we can a few years of it for a buck.
In general, the food processing industry puts enough in for our biological needs, so if you’re eating any processed foods at all, you don’t need additional salt. Even if you are eating completely vegetarian out of your own garden plot, you don’t need very much.
The lone exception, and I hate to offer it because a lot of people will use it as an excuse, is if you are seriously working out hard enough to lose a great deal of water. If you run 20 miles and come in weighing 4 pounds less after, you’ve lost enough salt that you might have to get in a few micro-grams from the salt shaker. That’s about 100th teaspoon, so don’t get carried away with it.
